Hello there!

-Roger

I'm Roger Newton and I am the senior citizen of the Safety Council with 50 years of service to one of the best Safety Councils in the state of Ohio.

I started my career in the spring of 1973 at General Motors New Departure in Sandusky under the tutelage of Wm. J. (Bill) Duffy. In the fall of 1973 Bill encouraged me to attend my first Safety Council board meeting, and as they say, the rest is history.

One of my most memorable undertakings with the council was becoming a trainer/coach for local Industry (Sandusky/Bellevue) on the state sponsored BWC (Industrial Commission) program that was created to improve the safety rating of penalty rated companies.

I’ve enjoyed watching the growth of the Council from 32 members to well over 100. The evolution of the participating companies has been a pleasure to watch over the years. I have seen it transition from the high-level executives to a more diverse membership of varying backgrounds.

It has been a very rewarding experience to have been affiliated with such a great organization, and a very talented board of directors.  As an old safety professional once said, if we have prevented just one serious injury, it has been time and effort well spent.

Long live the Safety Council
